PET Packaging for Coffee, Tea and Non-Carbonated Cold Drinks

A LiVAR application guide for coffee, tea and compatible non-carbonated cold drinks, covering PET CAN size choice, SOT guidance, #202 sealing and validation.

Clear LiVAR PET CAN sample for beverage packaging

LiVAR PET CAN products can be evaluated for coffee, tea and compatible non-carbonated beverage packaging when the complete filling, sealing, storage and distribution process is validated. The packaging decision should be made as a system rather than by choosing a bottle first and a lid later.

Which LiVAR system is used for PET CAN beverages?

The current PET CAN range uses the 55 mm / #202 system. LiVAR's Order Assistant guides liquid PET CAN applications toward the compatible SOT stay-on-tab lid configuration. The Mini Can Sealing Machine is the matching machine for the #202 family.

Which capacity should I choose?

LiVAR currently lists PET CAN formats from 100 ml to 500 ml. For drink-oriented projects, buyers commonly compare mid-size and 500 ml formats, but the correct choice depends on the intended serving size, container profile, carton configuration and filling process. Classic is listed at 355 ml, Fresh at 360 ml, and Mango, Milk and Urban at 500 ml.

ModelCapacityCarton quantity
Classic355 ml200 pcs
Fresh360 ml162 pcs
Mango500 ml144 pcs
Milk500 ml140 pcs
Urban500 ml150 pcs

Does a SOT lid make the package suitable for carbonation?

No. The current LiVAR PET CAN product guidance states that the range is not suitable for carbonated beverages. Closure appearance or easy-open functionality does not establish pressure performance.

What validation is important for a cold-drink project?

  • Confirm the intended fill is compatible with the exact PET CAN and process.
  • Select the exact container size and #202 closure.
  • Validate seam quality and leak resistance after sealing.
  • Confirm the filling temperature and storage conditions against current product documentation.
  • Run handling and transport trials for the finished package.
  • Confirm any food-contact, labelling or regulatory documentation required for the destination.

What about coffee beans, tea leaves or dry products?

Dry coffee, tea and other solid products are a different selection case from liquids. LiVAR's guided selection for solid and powder PET CAN applications points toward the compatible EPE lid configuration. The exact product and packaging process should still be tested.
