EPE vs SOT PET Can Lids: LiVAR #202 Compatibility Guide

Compare LiVAR EPE-lined and SOT easy-open aluminum lids for the 55 mm / #202 PET CAN system and understand the compatibility checks required before production.

LiVAR SOT aluminum lid for 55 mm #202 PET CAN

LiVAR offers two primary aluminum lid formats for its 55 mm / #202 PET CAN system: EPE and SOT. They share the same system family but are not the same closure. Selection should be based on the intended application, opening format and current LiVAR compatibility guidance.

What is an EPE lid in the LiVAR range?

The LiVAR PET CAN LID EPE is an aluminum closure with an EPE sealing liner. It is specified for LiVAR PET CAN products using the 55 mm / #202 neck system. The current UAE product page lists 3,500 pieces per full box.

What is an SOT lid?

The LiVAR PET CAN LID SOT is a stay-on-tab aluminum easy-open closure for the same 55 mm / #202 PET CAN family. The tab remains attached during opening. The current UAE product page lists 5,400 pieces per full box.

Which lid should be used for liquids?

The LiVAR Order Assistant currently guides liquid PET CAN applications toward the compatible SOT configuration, while solid and powder applications are guided toward EPE. This is selection guidance rather than a substitute for product validation. The exact filling process and finished package should still be tested before commercial use.

Can EPE and SOT be sealed on the same LiVAR machine?

The current Mini Can Sealing Machine specification lists both LiVAR EPE and SOT aluminum lids as compatible with the 55 mm / #202 PET CAN system. Machine setup, seam quality and leak resistance should be checked whenever the container or lid configuration changes.

What should not be assumed?

  • Do not infer carbonated-beverage suitability from the lid alone.
  • Do not mix #202 closures with the #305 PET JAR system.
  • Do not treat a secondary plastic cover as a replacement for the primary aluminum seal.
  • Do not infer regulatory or food-contact scope beyond the documentation for the exact item and manufacturing site.
